Making Good Time

Have you ever worked with people who just don't want
to make a commitment?

So many people have a cultural heritage that somehow
prevents them from making a positive decision about
future events. It's a wait-and-see attitude. Even for a
week out. And this always drives me crazy.

Why won't these people choose the "yes" and change
plans if a conflict arises? It's just as easy to say "yes"
and make a change as it is to say "Maybe" and then
get into gear at the last minute.

I'm sure you've heard the excuses:

"I'm not sure what's going on then."
"I don't know how I'll feel."
"Let's wait and see what the weather's like."
"I'm probably going to be tired because ..."
"Who else is going?"
"I dunno."
"I'm going to be pretty busy that week. I have a hair appointment."
"That's pretty far."
"I can't ... I just can't."
"Have you seen the price of gas?"
"It's an election year ... " (lol, what kind of excuse is that)

For crying out loud ... I tell them any excuse will work
when they don't want to do that thing. And you know
what? ... I quit inviting them. And other people quit inviting
them. It's just easier to make plans without those who
waffle all the time.

While I've had no success in changing attitudes over the
years, I have come to understand that that's just the
way some people are, and I go about my business
at 80 mph, taking the curves too fast, driving blind at
night, and trying to stay between the ditches. Sometimes
scaring my passengers, but making good time!

They think I'm the one who needs an attitude adjustment.
